Saif Islam received his B.Sc. Degree in Physics from Middle East Technical University (Turkey), M.S. degree in Physics from Bilkent University ((Turkey), and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from UCLA in 2001. He worked for JDS Uniphase Corp, and Hewlett Packard Labs before joining UC Davis in 2004, where he is a Professor in the ECE Department. He authored or co-authored more than 280 scientific papers, organized 32 conferences as a Chair or Co-Chair; and holds 42 US and international patents as an inventor/co-inventor.
Dr. Islam received NSF CAREER Award, Outstanding Junior and Outstanding Mid-Career Research Faculty Award, IEEE Professor of the Year, and UC Davis Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Awards. He is a fellow IEEE, AAAS, OSA, SPIE, and National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
